About
What is it?
The CPM (Cost Per Thousand impressions) calculator computes the price you pay for 1,000 displays of your ad, regardless of the number of clicks.
Why use it?
CPM is the standard measurement for awareness and display campaigns. It lets you objectively compare different ad placements and networks.
How does it work?
CPM is calculated by dividing the total campaign cost by the number of impressions, then multiplying by 1,000. Formula: CPM = (Cost ÷ Impressions) × 1,000.
Usage tips
- Use CPM for brand awareness campaigns, not conversion campaigns
- A high CPM can be justified if the audience is highly targeted and qualified
- Compare CPMs across Facebook, Google Display, programmatic and traditional media
- Monitor viewability rate — an unseen impression is worth nothing
- CPM generally decreases outside high-competition periods (Q4)
